(UPDATE: You lot tin watch my girl and I make these foods on our Facebook Live video here. 💕)

Hello to all my lovely babe mamas!

(I know, I know, yous may not feel very lovely nigh days, what with the constant bodily fluids all over you. Hang in there. This also shall pass.)

But in the concurrently, a hungry baby is no laughing matter so let'southward become right to information technology!

Today nosotros are introducing baby to broccoli, zucchini, xanthous squash, blackness beans and yogurt. And we're dorsum once more with another lightening-fast circular of baby nutrient making. Five foods, under 20 minutes. 🙌

Only like my bootleg infant food peas, green beans, applesauce, butternut squash and oatmeal and my bootleg baby food quinoa, peaches, avocado, pumpkin and cottage cheese – I'k all about making the most of your fourth dimension!

And so, you set up?

Homemade baby food ingredients to make broccoli, zucchini, squash, black beans and yogurt -- in just 20 minutes!

How to make homemade baby nutrient broccoli, zucchini, squash, blackness beans and yogurt:

Step 1: First, get your broccoli going. Steam your broccoli florets using a steamer basket over a pot with a modest amount of water. Information technology should take 8-10 minutes to get them overnice and tender. Then puree, cool slightly and serve.

As you'll see on my listing of favorite baby food combinations, broccoli apparently pairs well with pineapple. Don't inquire me, inquire the lilliputian mouths that gobble it up.

Step 2: Adjacent up is zucchini and yellow squash. I recall I introduced these separately, but so quickly always made them together. One time I got by the initial baby food stage, I would sauté some sliced zucchini and yellow squash with a small bit of diced onion in olive oil, sprinkle with thyme, cook until tender and then puree. Delicious! (And when they're ready, skip the puree and serve these as finger foods.)

For the first fourth dimension around, just dice these up, steam in a steamer handbasket in a pot with a lilliputian chip of h2o – virtually five-7 minutes — and and then puree. You can also do them in a large pan with a bit of h2o, similar I did here, so you can steam the broccoli while you cook these at the same fourth dimension. Let's maximize our stove usage!

Either fashion, zucchini and squash have a high water content, so the puree may exist pretty watery. You can mix this with brown rice or quinoa or couscous or another grain that your baby has had.

Step iii: Black beans were such a hitting with my kiddos! In fact, with Yard, if at that place was a food she didn't seem to similar, I would but add pureed black beans to it and she'd gobble information technology up. No baby food going to waste matter effectually here. 🙌

You really just open the can, rinse and drain the beans very well and puree them upwardly. You'll demand to add some water to go the puree going.

This method works for all the other beans you lot'll want to betrayal your baby to – cannellini beans, pinto beans, bang-up Northern beans, kidney beans, even black-eyed peas. Only rinse well, drain, puree and serve.

And in one case you're slowly moving into finger foods, save out a half of a cup of the beans before you puree and plop them right onto the high chair tray. Both of my kids still dearest eating beans and it's such a skillful protein and cobweb boost. 👌

Stride 4: I started both of my kids with Greek yogurt. Information technology's thicker, yes, but it'due south also got tons more poly peptide and no added sugar. (Get for the apparently stuff. Hither'due south how to flavor it up with some fruits mixes for yogurt (plus spinach or kale) after on when they're ready.)

As to serving… um, simply open the container. 😂 Information technology's that easy.

One more note: In the starting time, brand certain to get the total-fatty Greek yogurt. Cabot makes a 10% fat Greek yogurt. See if you can discover that. Otherwise, there should exist 6% or at to the lowest degree 2%. You don't want to go fat-free for babies. They need that fat to nourish their growing brains and bodies.

And we're Washed!

You just fabricated tons of cracking homemade infant food! If you lot've got more than your baby will swallow in the next few days, just pack some of it away in the freezer. (I use babe ice cube trays or small-scale containers to portion it out and freeze it, then pop them in a labeled freezer bag.)

If you're wondering, what'due south a serving size for a baby? I always went with about ii-4 tablespoons per serving per food, depending on the baby's age, between near vi and 12 months. I had hearty eaters and would offer 2-3 foods in those portion sizes at each meal.

I hope this was helpful! And be sure to check out my other beginner baby foods and batch cooking ideas.

XO,

Kathryn

P.Southward. Hither's a helpful run-down of my other rounds of baby food making:

Bootleg baby food round i: peas, dark-green beans, absurdity, butternut squash, oatmeal
Homemade babe food round ii: sugariness potato, brown rice, chicken, pears, assistant
Homemade baby nutrient round 3: quinoa, peaches, avocado, pumpkin, cottage cheese
Homemade babe nutrient circular 5: asparagus, barley, edamame, blueberries, mango
Homemade baby food round half dozen: apricots, prunes, egg yolks, chick peas, blackberries

Prep Fourth dimension 10 minutes

Melt Time 10 minutes

Total Fourth dimension 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 small caput broccoli, cutting into florets
  • i zucchini, diced
  • 1 yellowish squash, diced
  • 1 (fifteen.five oz.) can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 cup patently Greek yogurt (high fat)

Instructions

For the broccoli

  1. Steam your broccoli florets using a steamer basket over a pot with a small amount of water. It should have 8-10 minutes to get them overnice and tender.
  2. So puree in a blender or immersion blender, cool slightly and serve.

For the zucchini and squash

  1. Add the zucchini and xanthous squash to a steamer handbasket in a pot with a little bit of water – about 5-7 minutes — and so puree. You can also do them in a large pan with a bit of h2o and so you can steam the broccoli while you melt these at the same fourth dimension.

For the black beans

  1. Puree the rinsed and and drained black beans with a little bit of h2o until they reach a smooth, spoon-able consistency.

For the Greek yogurt

  1. Cull the highest-fat Greek yogurt you tin can observe (I used a 10% fat Cabot Greek yogurt), so open the container and serve! Once infant has tried this new nutrient on its own for a few days, to monitor for a possible reaction, y'all can start calculation fruit purees to flavor the yogurt.

Notes

The zucchini and squash purees will be watery. They are great to mix with brownish rice, oatmeal, quinoa, couscous or another starchy grain that your infant has had.

The method for blackness beans would piece of work with nearly whatever other canned bean besides.

I have e'er used and highly recommend a manus-held immersion blender for making homemade baby food.

Homemade babe nutrient can be stored in the fridge for 3-5 days or packed up in the freezer (I use ice cube trays and pocket-sized containers like these and these) for 3-v months.
